Letter to Mr. Kapil Sibal, MHRD/ Regarding OBC reservation

To,

Hon'ble Shri Kapil Sibal

Human Resource Development Minister

Government of India

Subject: Regarding OBC quota implementation in Delhi University.

Sir,

We wish to draw your attention to the news item that appeared in different newspapers on October 7, 2011. The headline in The Hindustan Times says - HC asks DU to convert 50 vacant OBC seats into General. The news item says that - The Delhi high court has directed Delhi University (DU) to convert the 50 vacant OBC seats in the LLB course in to General category in the current academic year and give admission to students in the waiting list.

Sir, given that there is no "minimum eligibility marks" prescribed for any category in the LLB entrance examination, the University is bound to admit all the OBC candidates in the OBC merit list till they fill all the seats as per the Supreme Court Order. The current scenario of OBC seats lying vacant has arisen because Delhi University has not implemented the Supreme Court order. It is extremely unfortunate that the University is flouting both the Constitutional provisions and paying scant respect to the Order of the Apex Court of this country, and is continuing with its policies against the weaker sections of our society.

Sir, we also wish to draw your attention on your speech in LOK SABHA on 19th August, clearly stating that - "Not a single seat of the OBC quota will go to the general category students in Delhi University." We request you to ensure that the constitutional provision of 27% OBC reservation is implemented in letter and spirit at the University of Delhi otherwise organization will be compelled to do Dharna and Demonstration in front of your residence in large numbers on12th,Oct 2011.
