Bio-Note: - Chinnaiah Jangam is presently assistant professor at the department of history, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He is an accomplished scholar, specializing in modern South Asia. He finished his Ph.D. from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, UK in 2005 and his thesis focused on the intellectual and political writings of Dalits against caste inequality and oppression in colonial South India. His primary research interests include Dalits and Decolonization, especially his intellectual engagement of Dalits with colonialism, nationalism and Christianity. His engagement with dalit life writings (biographies/autobiographies) and in exploring the parallels with other narrative of dispossession including the slave narratives in the Atlantic constitutes the core of his intellectual exercise. Dr Jangam was born and brought up in a remote village, Komanpally in Nizambad district Andhra Pradesh. He had a brief sojourn with Osmania University as an Assistant Professor which marks the beginnings of his intellectual career. Currently he is working on a monograph based on his Ph.D, Thesis. He is keenly interested in issues of social justice, human scholarship for doctoral studies in England also awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He has been working in the area of human rights, self-respect and dignity, democracy and citizenship. He was the recipient of Felix a Post-doctoral fellow at New York University and has taught in Wagner College in New York
