Stripping of Dalit women: Chargesheet filed against upper caste neighbours

Over two years after two women were allegedly thrashed and almost stripped by their upper caste neighbours, the Wadala TT police have filed two separate cases under the Prevention of Atrocity Act.In 2008, Urmilla Lunwara, a municipal school teacher, and Mamta Makhwana were allegedly assaulted and almost stripped for questioning the periodic demands by a few upper caste neighbours of a “building maintenance” for their MHADA Colony houses in Wadala.

Dalit woman's tongue bitten off during rape attempt

A 30-year-old dalit woman's tongue was bitten off allegedly by a man who attempted to rape her in Pihani area of the district, police said.Suresh attempted to rape the woman in Lehana village late last night and when she resisted the rape attempt, he bit her tongue so hard that one inch of it came off, they said.

Dalit girls murder: Buta Singh meets victims'' mother

Moradabad : Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes Buta Singh today assured justice to the mother of two dalit sisters, who were allegedly burnt to death by a mob here.Singh visited Kothiwal Nagar area and met the victims'' mother Rajo and assured her of justice, officials said.

13-year-old gangraped by nine people in Haryana

Panipat: In Haryana, a shocking incident of a series of gangrapes with a 13-year-old Dalit minor by different set of people has come to light. The victim, a class 6 student and a resident of Budakheda village of Jind, was gang-raped in a single day by nine different people. The ordeal of the girl was not over there, as she was subsequently confined in a house in Panipat and gang-raped for nine days. The police has now rescued the girl from Panipat.

Appointment on Fake Caste Certificate

Some cases of appointments made on the basis of allegedly fake caste certificates have come to the notice of Government. As per information received from 30 Ministries/ Departments, there were about 1383 cases of appointments made on the basis of allegedly false/ fake caste certificates. The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered 58 cases against 67 persons on allegations of appointment on the basis of fake caste certificates.

Boycotted Dalit woman commits suicide in Orissa

Bhubaneswar : A Dalit woman leader, who fought on behalf of two Dalit cooks who were sacked due to upper-caste protests, hanged herself late Friday, an organisation working for Dalit rights said Saturday. Saraswati Sethy, 28, was a resident of Sanamarichapalli village in the coastal district of Kendrapada, some 150 km from here.
