The Social Justice Department of Maharashtra has purchased the building in London which was home to Dr Ambedkar between 1921-22. This is the first time that any state Govt is buying property abroad.
This pioneering work was done by 3 staunch Ambedkarites (Rajkumar Badole, Dilip Kamble and Ujwal Uke) to preserve the memory of Babasaheb. Part of the building will be used as rental accomodation to house Dalit students visiting London on scholarships to pursue research.
One room is to be set aside for a visiting Professor. Also discussions were initiated to have a Ambedkar Chair in London School of Economics.
In this endeavor the SCs in England have given full support. The team met several Ambedkarite organizations in London such as FABO (Federation of Ambedkarite and Buddhist Organizations ), Guru Ravidas Sabha etc.
