Bulandshahr (UP): Lala, a Dalit youth from Nagla Chona village in Gautam Buddhnagar, was hanged on Tuesday following the village panchayat’s order. Inder, the father of the deceased, alleges that initially, the panchayat ordered that his son be beaten up, but later they turned it into a death sentence. Lala was hanged from a sheesham (Indian rosewood) tree. He was alleged to have an extramarital affair with an upper caste woman of Nagla Tota village in Bulandhshahr. The members of the panchayat and the woman’s husband are absconding. The police is calling it a case of suicide.
Lala, son of Inder, fell in love with the woman and eloped with her six months ago to Dehradun. They stayed there for a while but later the woman returned to her husband. On Tuesday evening, Lala came to meet the woman in her village. It is alleged that the husband of the woman caught them and called for a meeting of 10-20 people. Allegedly, the panchayat first ordered that Lala be beaten up and then they decided that he should be hanged. Later the police, which was informed about the incident, took down Lala’s body and sent it for post mortem.
Inder, the father of the deceased, stated before the police that the husband of the woman and his relatives have murdered his son because of their caste backgrounds. The police is calling it a case of suicide. Kotwali in-charge R P Singh says the woman, who had eloped with Lala, later returned to her husband and then the disheartened Lala committed suicide by hanging himself from the tree. However the relatives of the deceased have given a written complaint against the panchayat members and the husband.
