In the continuing series of protests against the Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP) several students groups, including Students’ Union of India and UDSF of Jawaharlal Nehru University, with several activists and faculty groups demonstrated in front of the Ministry of Human Resource Development today i.e. on 11th June, 2013.
The protesters expressed the view that the FYUP, imposed unconstitutionally and unethically by Delhi University with the backing of the Ministry of Human Resource & Development and the University Grant Commission, is a policy designed to exclude students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Castes along with minority groups and students belonging to PWD.

In the featured video Jenny Rowena, Associate Professor in Miranda House, explains why FYUP needs to be opposed strongly by all those who wish to protect the education system against the onslaught of new, inegalitarian policies like the FYUP.
Though the FYUP is already being implemented by Delhi University since 5th June, student organisations, particularly from Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Milia, who understand the gravity of students’ concerns are determined to keep on agitating until FYUP is rolled back.
So far, Ram Vilas Paswan, Sharad Yadav and Udit Raj and several other leaders and intellectuals have registered their disagreement with the program and asked for debate on the matter. Their voices are still waiting to be heard!
