On June 06, 2020, a sad news popped up on my mobile that Bauddhacharya Shanti Swaroop Bauddh was no more. He was 71. For the past several days, he was fighting with the corona virus disease at Delhi’s Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital. The warrior dealing with all the hassles and challenges in life eventually lost to death. Death is the ultimate truth of life. The most prosperous or supremely powerful person in the world also dies. This is man’s final destination. No one has been able to overcome this. Even when knowing that death is the ultimate truth, it hurts to lose our loved ones.
Born on October 02, 1949 as Lala Harichand Maurya’s son in Delhi, Shanti Swaroop Bauddh’s ife was consciously devoted to fulfilling his social obligations. His grandfather first named him Gulab Singh, but later on the advice of Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar, his grandfather changed his name to Shanti Swaroop.
Shanti Swaroop Bauddh was a high scholar, a skilled editor and publisher, and an energetic speaker as well as a skilled artist. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Delhi College of Arts. Apart from the Buddha and Dr. Ambedkar, he had painted many other personalities with his own hands. Books written by him have been translated into many languages of the world including English, Sinhalese, Nepali, Burmese.
Shanti Swaroop Bauddh, who had sacrificed his life for the Cultural Revolution after resigning the post of Gazetted Officer of the Central Government, established Samyak Prakashan with the aim of publishing famous texts of Ambedkarite literature and Buddhism. Samyak Prakashan has so far published more than 2,000 books. When the big publishers refused to publish the literature of the marginalized writers of society, then there was a big crisis in front of these writers, what to do now? It used to be in their mind: will their written material with a new approach remain unpublished? In such a situation, Samyak Prakashan provided a great platform to such authors and published their books. The books of many authors were published for the first time only through Samyak Prakashan founded by Shanti Swaroop Bauddh. The permanent stall of Samyak Prakashan is still there in Diksha Bhoomi, Nagpur.
Bauddhacharya Shanti Swaroop Bauddh believed that our leaders are solely responsible for making the country a Hindu nation. They are forming new parties every day, sabotaging the organization of the Bahujan movement or the chariot of Babasaheb’s movement at the crossroads. These sold-out leaders have gone to the upper castes and blindfolded their eyes looking at the problems and suffering of the society, stuffed cotton swabs in their ears and locked their mouths. If India becomes a Hindu nation, it will be due to them or because of the people who are caught in false promises and cheated by enemies. No leader is doing the work of creating awareness among his people.
Shanti Swaroop Bauddh responded to criticisms and objections in a very calm manner. Regarding criticisms he always used to say that our liberator Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar wrote in the editorial of ‘Bahishkrit Bharat’ on 06 September 1929 that due to adverse situation sometimes there are clouds of despair on our minds. Even if we have despair on our minds, the grip is not allowed to be strong. We do not say we do not make mistakes. If someone tells us our mistakes with authentic intelligence, we will not feel bad at all. Not only this, we are always ready to consider that criticism, thanking the man. After all, who is omniscient in human society?
Bauddhacharya Shanti Swaroop Bauddh used to say that our fight is not with Brahmin, but with Brahminism. For this, he often used to give examples that when Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar had burnt Manusmriti with Gangadhar Neelkanth Sahastrabuddhe during the Mahad Satyagraha, many of his clumsy companions had objected that why do you keep the Brahmin with you? He said that I am not against the Brahmin, but against Brahminism. In this way, Shanti Swaroop Bauddh, who loved humanity and adopted a critical attitude towards hypocrisy and hypocrisy, was engaged in life for the purpose of giving the right direction to society. His untimely departure is an irreparable loss to the enlightened Bahujan society.
